How much sand do I need for a dust bath?
If you are creating a dust bath for you chickens then a 20kg bag is sufficient
Can I mix other items into the sand?
Yes ashes from a fire and DE dust add to the dust bath will help to keep your chicken’s mite free.
Should my dust bath be in a covered area.
Yes the area under a raised house is perfect for a dust bath or in a covered run

Dust baths are absolutely essential for helping keep mites and pests at bay and they also allow your hen to express her natural behaviour, making them happier and healthier all round.
Sand is the main base ingredient for any good dust bath, our kiln dried sand is particularly good as it’s very fine and having been kiln dried has no residual moisture.
The tiny grains of sand along with a good DE powder will kill lice and mites by abrasion, the grains are so small they are harmless to the chickens but to mites and lice they are like tiny shards of glass.
