Should I Clean My Chicken’s Feet?
It is advised that during the winter and wetter months you clean your hen’s feet if needed, this is especially true for feather footed birds. Chickens with feathered feet will pick up wet mud which then clings and clumps to their feathers creating large mud balls that then stick to the hen’s foot feathers. This can cause all kinds of issues including bacterial infections and lameness. You can clean the feet by soaking them in warm water and using a pet friendly shampoo to wash the feet and clean the mud off, for larger clumps you should remove first with scissors by cutting the foot feathers.
